arbi Breen-Gurley has been an active dressage trainer and instructor since 1970 after attaining her bhsai from Moat House, England. She has won numerous local, state and national championships each year and has been on the usef Long List and Developing Rider list several times on her different horses through the years. She is a usdf Gold Medalist and has trained seven of her horses to the Grand Prix level.


She is a Senior Dressage Judge and Quadrille judge. She currently competes on her three Dutch Warmblood horses. With Octango, a Contango brother to Ravel, she won the Intermediare (2008) and Grand Prix Freestyles (2009) for both the state and Western Regional Finals. In his first season at The Grand Prix, Octango earned numerous scores over 66%. Barbi's seven-year-old Dutch gelding, Vindicator [00 Seven], is earning numerous scores over 68% at third level. Her Dutch Warmblood mare, Whisper [by Idocus], successfully competed first level in 2009.


Barbi has co-authored a book with Janet Emmons, Enlightened Riding, which is soon to be released in its second edition. In addition they have released an audio cd series on “guided imagery.” Barbi offers workshops, clinics and demonstrations based on the book's concepts at Sea Horse Ranch, which she owns with her husband, Geof Gurley. Barbi actively pursues improving herself by regularly attending clinics with highly successful trainers such as Robert Dover, Steffen Peters, Conrad Schumacher, Kyra Kyrklund, Debbie McDonald, Morten Thomsen, Christine Travrig, Laurie Falvo-Doyle, Willy Arts and Alfredo Hernandez.
